“Excuse me,” Harry said, trying to keep the tension from his voice, “but I've had a really bad time lately, I'm on a long deserved vacation, and I'd really appreciate it if you would stop staring at me.”
“Sorry,” the other boy said, and looked away.
But two seconds later, there it was again, an incredibly obvious stare. Hadn't this guy ever heard of manners? He should have returned to the hotel with the Weasleys, instead of staying to buy Ginny's birthday present on his own. Now he was stuck in the subway with some idiot who wouldn't stop looking at him. Wasn't he supposed to be unknown in Japan? Especially among Muggles?
“Do you have relatives here in Japan?” the stranger asked bluntly. Harry sighed, and gave up. Apparently he wasn't getting away from this conversation.
“Not that I know of. Why?”
“You remind me of someone.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. My boyfriend.”
“Oh.”
“He doesn't know yet, though.”
“That I remind you of him?” he asked, confused.
“That he's my boyfriend.”
Harry opened his mouth and closed it again. None of the things he wanted to say (from “how does that even work?” to “why are you having this conversation with me?”) seemed very appropriate.
“Well, I hope he finds out soon,” he muttered, at a loss of something better to say. It was true, though. That poor soul should be aware that he had a stalker without manners.
“Me too,” said the other boy. Harry knew he shouldn't be making him talk more, but he couldn't help himself.
“Doesn't that sort of depend on you?”
“I'm doing my best,” he replied. “He's a bit slow.”
Harry felt very, very sorry for the 'boyfriend'. This guy was starting to make Romilda Vane look normal. Luckily, he was saved from further awkwardness when the boy left the subway in the next stop. He took the time to stare at Harry one last time, though. It was really uncomfortable.
At least, Harry thought, Ron hadn't been next to them to tease him about this for the rest of his life...
