“It's an honour to meet such an accomplished Firebender,” Clow said, bowing politely. Iroh bowed back at him.

“The honour is mine,” he replied. “I take it you are not a Bender, then?”

“Merely a scholar,” he said.

He could tell that Iroh knew he wasn't from the Fire Nation, or from the Earth Kingdom for that matter, and perhaps the former General felt curious about it. But, after seeing the white lotus piece, he wouldn't ask Clow where was he from. Nationality was unimportant for members of the White Lotus Society.

“Let me offer you a cup of jasmine tea,” Iroh said, leading him inside the empty tea house. “There is nothing better for a weary traveller.”

“Thank you,” he told him as he sat down. “I've heard many wonders about your tea.”

Iroh laughed heartily, pouring two cups before sitting down himself.

“Ah, yes,” he said, “in my old age, I'd rather be known for my tea than for my battles. With this little tea house, I've finally conquered Ba Sing Se and won its heart.”

The delicious smell alone was proof of the tea's quality. Clow took a small sip, his eyes closed, savouring it carefully.

“It deserves every praise and more,” he said, smiling. “But you must have guessed I'm not here only for your tea.”

“The white lotus piece isn't shown for nothing,” Iroh replied, nodding. “What kind of help do you need?”

“I have been travelling this world for a long time,” Clow explained, “learning about the different Nations and their bending techniques. But it has come to my attention,” he added, nodding at his host, “that someone has done it before.”

“Someone who's interested in my old stories? I never thought I'd see the day,” Iroh laughed. “It will take a while until my nephew returns from his date. If you're not in a hurry, perhaps we can talk over a game of pai sho.”

Clow took another sip of his tea and smiled.

“It will be my pleasure.”
