tsukimineshrine's "Defend your OTP" challenge.
“...and in those old times, when people finished high school, they had to go through complicated and dangerous rituals to be accepted in the adult world...”
“Yes, yes,” Chiharu nodded tiredly, “of course they did. Honestly, Takashi, do you still think I believe your stories?”
“No,” he admitted with a grin. “But I might as well try. After all, once high school is over for us, I won’t have the chance to do it… We’ll probably see very little of each other.”
“Says who?” Chiharu exclaimed. He laughed at her annoyed expression.
“See? I did get you there!”
She strangled him out of habit, but was too relieved to put her heart in it. Chiharu had to admit that she had been a little worried about what would happen now. As far as she could remember, she and Takashi had always been together, and it was strange to think that they wouldn’t see each other every day in class anymore.
“I will miss the wide audience, though,” he said once she let him go. “I don’t think I’ll find people like Kinomoto and Li anywhere else.”
“Gullible people are everywhere,” she sighed. “Just try not to overdo it, alright? I don’t want to imagine what you’ll get into if I’m not there to stop you.”
“Is it my fault if I have such an amazing imagination?” he asked, pretending to be hurt. “All I want to do is expand my artistic creativity in unusual and unexplored ways-”
“You are good with words, I give you that,” she sighed. “But you could use that for something more practical.”
“What for?” he said, shrugging. “It’s just a hobby.”
Some hobby, Chiharu thought. But that was just like him: always living in his head, getting lost in his own words. She was the down-to-earth one. They were so different, and yet… perhaps that was why they made such a good team.
“I wonder sometimes…” she said thoughtfully, “If I never believed a single one of your stories, how come I did think Tomoyo was right about stuffed bears and true love?”
“Stuffed bears?” Takashi said with a blink. She blushed.
“Yeah… you know, the hand-made one I gave you once…”
“Oh! I still have it,” he said. “Remember how I said I’d name it Suama?”
“Yes,” Chiharu sighed, annoyed. He grinned.
“I lied.”
She should have figured that, Chiharu thought as they kissed.
